Mandhana Industries Limited

Nebulous Design undertook its most extensive project to date with the design of Mandhana Industries Limited – Garment Division, an impressive facility spanning 185,000 square feet. Meticulous planning was employed to accommodate the workflow of 2,400 workers while integrating green building features. The design placed a strong emphasis on efficient movement of people and goods, a critical aspect in a garment factory setting.

The production plant was strategically constructed across two levels: the ground floor and the first floor. Raw materials were transported upwards, while finished products were brought down for storage. To ensure seamless operations, two 2-tonne elevators were installed alongside a range of machinery.

Sustainable practices were at the core of the project, with rainwater harvesting facilities and a biophilic approach incorporated into the design. Less than 50% of the site area was developed, allowing ample space for natural elements. Thorough research on local climatic conditions guided the design team in minimizing solar heat gain. The south and west facades featured double walls using Aerocon panels with an air gap, complemented by vertical shading devices. These measures effectively reduced the impact of harsh sunlight while preserving the influx of natural light. Additionally, a well-placed courtyard ensured that artificial lighting was unnecessary until late afternoon.

In adherence to the client’s requirements, the design also incorporated Vaastu principles and included various fire safety measures. Legal obligations were fulfilled by incorporating a school and a creche within the premises. To infuse a modern and contemporary aesthetic, a curvy linear roof design was conceptualized. While solar features were not initially part of the client’s brief, the roof was intentionally designed to seamlessly accommodate future solar panel installations.
